KEVIN FURNISS

Care Pastor

My Story

I was born and raised in Memphis, TN and graduated from Evangelical Christian School.  I made a profession of faith at a young age, but didn’t grasp what it meant to truly follow Christ until high school.  In the summer of my junior year of high school, I met a man named Will McKay while preparing to go on a mission trip to Tegucigalpa, Honduras.  It was at that time that I nailed down my faith in Jesus Christ and began to follow him everyday.  Will spent the next two years with me, teaching me the Bible and showing me how to follow Christ.  Shortly after those two years of discipleship, I felt the Lord calling me to full-time vocational ministry.

I attended Union University in Jackson, TN, where I received a Bachelor of Christian Studies. During my time at Union, I met and fell in love with Kaitlyn. We spent the next two years in Jackson while she finished her degree, and I began taking seminary classes online at Southern Seminary. After Kaitlyn graduated, we moved to Louisville, KY for me to continue my seminary degree. We ended up staying in Louisville for a short time before the Lord brought us back to Memphis. I graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in December of 2014 with a Master of Divinity. I also completed the Downline Institute, a nine-month program that teaches you the Bible from cover to cover as well as how to make disciples.

While in the Downline Institute, I had the opportunity to be the Family Ministries Intern at Harvest Church. After interning for a year, I became the Children’s Pastor in the fall of 2014. I remember sitting in Braxton Brady’s office in the summer of 2013 talking about the possibility of interning under him, and I would have never dreamed the Lord would have led me to where I am now. I am so thankful for the Lord’s grace in leading my wife and I to Harvest. I am excited to step into the role of Care and Connections Pastor to help our body be known, loved and cared for while at Harvest.

My wife and I have two sons, Benjamin (7) and Jacob (5). When I am not working at Harvest, I love to spend time with my wife, play golf with my boys, go to Grizzlies games, and watch just about any sport on TV.

My Hope For Harvest

My hope for Harvest is that we would glorify Jesus Christ in everything we do.  I pray that we would be a body of believers that know and worship the one true God in spirit and in truth, and that we would make disciples of all nations until the end of time.
