Elders & Deacons
In Memoriam
We will forever remember our beloved Executive Pastor and elder, Bill Garner, who died in a tragic plane crash on January 17, 2023. Bill, known to the staff as "The Stallion," was a constant presence of strength, leadership, and grace. His influence on our team is unable to be measured, and we will always feel his absence. In honor of Bill, and to the glory of Christ, we continue his charge to "Advance the Gospel" and we look forward to the day we will see him again.
On January 17, 2023 Steve Tucker tragically died in a plane crash in Victoria, Texas. Steve was a founding Elder of Harvest Church, and was the preeminent example of a disciple-maker. Also passionate about church planting, Steve served on our church plant committee and helped oversee a multitude of church plants during his life. We will miss Steve's presence and leadership, and with the Lord's help, we will follow in his footsteps as we make disciples to the ends of the earth.
Elders
Harvest is an elder-led church. Elder leadership is the model we see prescribed for our benefit by Scripture. The elder-led approach provides us with sound guidance, leadership and pastoral care from biblically-qualified men. All of the elders are pastors of the congregation, who also meet regularly to pray and provide spiritual oversight on matters concerning the church. Although some of our elders are employed by the church, the majority work in secular jobs. All elders meet the stated qualifications for this office, as laid out in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
Deacons
The deacons of Harvest Church fill supportive roles as they coordinate the various ministries relating to the physical needs of the congregation. Each deacon oversees a particular church ministry, thus freeing the elders to provide spiritual oversight to the church. At their discretion, the deacons can gather volunteers in support of their work. In their service to the church, the deacons compose serving schedules, direct activities, and communicate specific needs within their ministry context to the congregation. On any given Sunday, deacons may be found ushering, preparing communion, or serving with children among many other activities.
