Harvest Church Family Updates
Update 03/08/2023 10:15pm
Join us in a huge praise as Kennon got a great report today and his drain was able to be removed. This is a very encouraging step for him personally as he continues forward in his recovery.
Update 03/07/2023 4:45pm
The drain has remained dry and his current pain level is down. Kennon has a CT Scan tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2:00. If the scan is clear, they will remove the drain. Pray for a clear scan, that the drain will be removed, and that there will be no more internal infections or fluid build-ups.
Kennon is still experiencing reflux from time to time. Continue to pray this would stop and he would be healed of all stomach issues. Let’s also continue to pray that his appetite for food will return and, with it, increased physical energy and strength.
Finally, please also continue to remember Kathryn and their boys Caleb, Luke, Jonathan, David, and Mac in your prayers.
Update 03/05/2023 8:10pm
We are praising the Lord for His continued faithfulness. He hears our prayers and continues to work in mighty ways.
Kennon continues to ask for prayer for healing. We are specifically praying that the drain would dry up. This would allow for the drain to be removed—easing the discomfort in Kennon’s ribs. In addition, part of the healing process is getting good uninterrupted sleep to help quicken his recovery, so pray for rest. Let’s continue to lift up our pastor in prayer this week!
Update 02/10/2023 10:25pm
While we join each of you in our excitement that Kennon is home, we want to ask you to please keep praying for him. There is still a long road ahead as his body heals and we specifically ask for prayers that the Lord would intervene and ease his continued pain and discomfort. We also ask that you pray for restored strength to his body.
The doctors remain confident in his full recovery over time, but this will be a slow road and we appreciate your commitment to allow Kennon the time and space to heal and be with his family.
Keep checking back for periodic updates, and know that Kennon and Kathryn continue to cherish your prayers.
Update 02/06/2023 9:57pm
It is with great joy that tonight is our final, regular update as our beloved pastor is home.
While he still has a long road of recovery ahead, he will be continuing his recovery under the care of Memphis physicians.
At this time, he will not be receiving any visitors as he will be reconnecting with his family and focusing on healing physically.
It is an absolute miracle we are at this point and words cannot express how much your prayers have meant. Please keep them up!
Update 02/05/2023 9:25pm
Continued praise today for the White Blood Cell counts. Today was a great day with no set backs, and we ask that you continue to pray for things to keep progressing in a positive direction. The ministry opportunities at the hospital have been deep and rich so pray there is lasting fruit through Kennon’s and Kathryn’s relationships with the medical staff. We are so thankful for God’s continued provision and look forward to more positive updates in the days to come.
Update 02/04/2023 7:40pm
Kennon had a great day today and continued to improve. The White Blood Cell count is still the biggest prayer request, and his next labs are at 4:00am. Please join us in praying that those numbers do not elevate as this is a big step in getting closer to returning home.
Update 02/03/2023 9:07pm
Huge answer to prayer. This is the first day since the accident that Kennon’s white blood cell count is in the normal range. This is another testimony to God’s faithfulness. Continue to pray for Kennon’s white blood cell count to remain in the normal range it is currently in, and also pray that as Kennon transitions off antibiotics, that his digestive system would regulate normally. Lastly, we want to pray against any new fluid based infections to arise.
As always, pray the gospel will continue to go forward through Kennon and Kathryn as they minister to the medical staff.
Update 02/02/2023 6:43pm
After the drains were removed yesterday, Kennon was much more comfortable through the night, and he slept peacefully. Unfortunately, this morning, his labs revealed an elevated white blood cell count. The doctors did another CT scan to find out if this is being caused by either an abscess or an infection that is not responding to antibiotics. Fortunately the scan was clear. The doctors will continue to monitor this. As they do, pray that his white blood cell count will decrease and that it is nothing more than his body’s response to all he has endured.
Kennon has also been experiencing more pain today around his abdomen. The thought is that the pain could be stemming from his medication as it fights infection within his body. Pray that as he starts to sleep, his pain will subside and he will find comfort and rest.
Finally, continue to pray for Kennon’s doctors and nurses. Pray specifically that they see the Lord’s goodness and hope in and through Kennon as he recovers.
A Note from Kennon:
I know you all were praying for me today among other things related. I cannot put into words my gratitude for your prayers. My improvement over the course of the day has been tremendous. I have felt the healing mercy and sustaining grace of God through your prayers all day. So humbling and deeply encouraging to be lifted up by the Body.
Love you all so much. Blessings, KV
Update 02/01/2023 6:36pm
Kennon had another day of great improvement and progress. Earlier today, based on the success they’ve had to date, the doctors removed three of the drains from his abdomen. The fluid levels are staying below the level necessary for further intervention, and it doesn’t appear surgery is necessary. We are praising the Lord for this fantastic report!
Having the drains removed has also substantially improved the pain Kennon has been experiencing. He was up and walking laps again today and is feeling much better.
Continue to pray that the progress he’s seen over the last 24 hours will continue.
Update 01/31/2023 3:00pm
The procedure Kennon had yesterday was very successful. Though the new drains have caused discomfort and pain, the doctors are optimistic that they will successfully address the fluid buildup, and surgical intervention should be unnecessary. Please pray that over the next few days, this proves to be true.
Kennon is still in a substantial amount of pain, caused primarily by a chest tube that was put in yesterday. He has also been experiencing muscle spasms since the procedure. Pray that these spasms cease, that his pain subsides, and that he is able to get comfortable.
The doctors have assured Kennon that everything is trending in the right direction. We know that this is because of the Lord’s goodness and mercy toward him. Please pray those trends continue and that the Lord provides healing, comfort, strength.
Update 01/30/2023 5:42pm
Kennon had another IR procedure today to address fluid buildup in his abdomen and lungs. These pockets of fluid were expected, and the doctors are not concerned. That said, the fluid has to be addressed. During the procedure, the doctors put in two new drains. If they are effective in removing the fluid buildup, surgery will not be required. Please pray this proves to be the case.
Kennon has been in a lot of pain today since the procedure. Please pray that his pain will subside and that the Lord would bring comfort. Pray also for his rest. Kennon is sleeping more peacefully at night, but with his pain level intensifying, his rest could be impacted. Pray he can rest well and continue regaining strength.
Lastly, pray for Kathryn as she cares for Kennon and is away from her boys. Pray for her strength, pray for comfort, and pray that she would feel the Lord’s presence.
Update 01/27/2023 5:00pm
Kennon had what he considers to be his best day yet on the path to full recovery. The infection that presented earlier this week is being fought off, and his white blood cell count is steadily dropping. His lab results show great improvement, and the doctors are extremely encouraged with Kennon’s progress. His pain is also improving now that the doctors have the right balance of medication. He was up and moving more again today, walking up and down the hallway and going up and down a flight of stairs with assistance.
Kennon’s five sons arrived in San Antonio today and will be there through the weekend. Please pray that their visit will be an encouragement to the entire family.
Note: We ask that you continue to pray over the weekend and check back on Monday for a new update.
Update 01/26/2023 6:22pm
Kennon had a very good day. Last night, he was moved from the ICU to the surgical trauma floor based on his impressive progress. We are praising God for this development, which allows Kennon to spend more time with Kathryn during his recovery.
The infection continues to be managed well, and his swelling is improving. Kennon was able to get a shower today, and that alone has made him feel so much better.
Please continue to pray for his strength, comfort, and healing. And pray for the hospital staff, all of whom are seeing Christ through him.
Update 01/24/2023 5:30pm
Kennon is still doing well in his recovery but did have a more difficult day. He began to develop a fever during the night and does have a minor infection. The doctors performed a minor procedure today to address the infection, and all his treating physicians are optimistic that his fever will come down now that the procedure is complete. Please pray that this proves to be true.
Kennon continues to be in pain, particularly when eating, but this is to be expected. Nevertheless, please continue to pray that his pain will subside as his recovery continues.
Kennon is doing extremely well in his progress overall, and the doctors continue to be encouraged with how quickly he has progressed. We know that this is due to the many prayers of saints across the county and world interceding on his behalf. For that, we are eternally grateful. The Lord is doing a mighty work. Blessed be His name!
Update 01/23/2023 7:14pm
We are praising the Lord that Kennon had another restful night last night. His lab results continue to show signs of improvement, and he has shown continued positive development in his physical therapy. Kennon watched all of Jamie’s sermon last night and was so encouraged by the message.
Kennon has a new physicians assistant who has been extremely sweet and gracious toward him and Kathryn. The doctors, nurses and other treating physicians have all been impacted by Christ shining through Kennon and Kathryn, making clear what we already knew. Regardless of his circumstances, Kennon is an ambassador of the hope found in Christ.
Please continue to pray against infection as well as his pain. And pray that the gospel message of our hope in glory will continue to go forth in the midst of suffering.
Note: We are so grateful for your prayers. At this time, we will begin posting one update per day.
Update 01/21/2023 7:28pm
Kennon has made big steps today and he continues to progress. His labs continue to get better and the doctors are encouraged that he was able to do more physical therapy today.
Today, we continue to pray for his lung recovery. In addition, we are praising God for a local congregation that has provided meals for those in the waiting room all week.
Kennon is as motivated as ever and was able to share a beautiful note at Bill’s Memorial Service reminding us of our call to advance the Gospel.
Update 01/20/2023 10:35am
Kennon was in some discomfort last night and we are praying that he will feel God's presence and comfort especially when visiting hours are over. On that note, let's also pray that visiting hours can be adjusted so he can have someone present with him through the night. He remains under the constant care of great physicians and as his internal organs continue to adjust to his trauma we are praying against infections and/or complications.
We will continue to post updates here and are continually thankful for your prayers.
Update 01/19/2023 12:28pm
Kennon was given an epidural last night which really helped to ease his pain. An hour ago his doctors said that Kennon was progressing as expected and he was able to sit up in a chair and drink fluids as well.
The continued prayer is against any infections as his internal injuries continue to heal. Thank you again for your prayers as they are cherished by our church and the Vaughan family.
Update 01/18/2023 2:00pm
As of the latest report, Kennon has been extubated and is breathing on his own. Prayers right now are for pain management and for no infections to develop. We are grateful that reports on his spine and brain are clear, and we ask you keep Kathryn in your prayers as she is by Kennon’s side. We expect to post a final update for today later this evening.
As always, the surviving members of the Tucker, Garner, Patterson, and Springer families are continually on our hearts and in our prayers.
Update 01/18/2023 8:45am
We rejoice this morning in God's goodness. Kennon is breathing on his own and has been able to communicate some through writing. The latest reports from the doctors are all positive. Kennon is currently at one of the top trauma hospitals in the country and we are so thankful for God's provision. Kennon still needs to have some surgeries to repair injuries to his abdomen so please continue to pray for a full recovery.
Update 01/18/2023 7:30am
Kennon has suffered some significant internal injuries that called for surgery last night. He came through that surgery well and has a breathing test this morning to see if he can come off the breathing machine. We are hopeful for those results as that will allow Kathryn to talk with him. Please keep Kennon's recovery in your prayers and check back here for regular updates.
Additionally, please continue to keep the families of Steve Tucker, Bill Garner, Tyler Patterson, and Tyler Springer in your continued prayers.
Update 01/17/2023 12:00pm
It is with extremely heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Bill Garner, Steve Tucker, Tyler Patterson and Tyler Springer.
All were beloved members of Harvest Church and their loss currently leaves us without the proper words to articulate our grief.
As of our last report, Kennon Vaughan is in stable condition in a Texas hospital.
We ask for your prayers and kindly request that the families of all involved are given the proper space to grieve at this time.
We will provide more information as it is received.
We covet your prayers.
The worship center will be open from 6:30 to 8:30pm to gather for a time of prayer and mourning with Harvest elders, staff and fellow members.
“But we do not want you to be uniformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others who have no hope.” - 1 Thessalonians 4:13
