JULIUS JAMES

Local Missions Director

My Story

I grew up in Moore, Oklahoma with a brother and two wonderful parents. I believed in God at the age of 11 and began to attend church in middle school and continued into high school, but I hadn’t yet been illumined to the truth of the Gospel. After my time in public school, I received a scholarship offer to play soccer at Northeastern State University.

My first two years of college were filled with much anxiety, depression, and a loss of direction. During my Sophomore year I had succumb to the ways of the world, and as a result, failed both semesters. Because of this, I was kicked off the soccer team and had to leave college. It was at this point where I came to understand the depth of my sin and finally grasped the power and truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I surrendered my life to Christ and God saved me on the side of the highway on my way back home from college. After a semester of continuing my education at Oklahoma City Community College, by God’s grace and nothing short of His Providence, I was able to return to NSU and rejoin the soccer team. In the following years, I got involved with a campus ministry and my desire to know God grew the more I read His Word. I still struggled with anxiety and depression, but I was learning of the comfort and guidance of the Holy Spirit, and had brothers to encourage me, spur me on, and pray for me. In 2019 I graduated with a degree in General Studies with minors in Human and Health Performance, Psychology, and Computer Science.

Through my time studying God’s Word, the Lord made me aware of His heart for the nations. Playing soccer had blessed me with opportunities to witness to many international students from all over the world. In my seeking to understand this newfound passion, I was led to Memphis where I attended the Emerging Leaders program through Downline Ministries. During that year, I interned at Harvest in the missions department. In 2021, I joined the staff as the Local Missions Director while also pursuing my Master of Divinity in Missions and Evangelism through Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

My wife Tiffany and I met through Harvest, were engaged in September 2022 and married in January 2023. We are now expecting our first child, a baby girl!

My Hope For Harvest

My hope for Harvest is that we would be a church that continues to seek the righteousness of Christ in our communities, families, and in ourselves while persevering in the hope we have in Christ; growing in, sharing in, and abiding in the love and power of Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.
