Childcare Options for Discipleship Communities
We desire for everyone at Harvest to have an opportunity to be a part of a Discipleship Community. We also know that for many who have children it can be really difficult to find babysitting or commit another night of the week to something, even if it is important. In light of our desire to love and lead families toward a healthy experience of discipleship at Harvest, we would like to share some of the most common ways that Discipleship Communities do childcare, and an option we are offering for those who need it and are not otherwise able to participate in DCs.
Some groups handle childcare completely on their own.
In these groups those who need childcare simply hire babysitters and pay for them personally. A second way that DCs have done baby-sitting is when the group decides to pitch in together to help afford babysitting. These groups sometimes only have those with children pitch in or have everyone pitch in together in a desire to help as a group. Make sure that expectations for childcare are communicated up front and agreed upon as a group.
Sunday Morning Discipleship Communities
We love DCs meeting in people's homes throughout the week, but we are also going to offer to families with kids the opportunity to meet on Sunday mornings during either service. We want to make it as easy as we can for families to be a part of Discipleship Communities because we are excited about you continuing to live in community even during the busy years of parenting. This method also helps our limited childcare reimbursement budget stretch a lot further and many families find it helpful to be able to have childcare already provided by our excellent Harvest Kid's staff and volunteers at Harvest!
Babysitting reimbursement for Discipleship Communities
We also want to provide a childcare reibursement opportunity for those who need it. If childcare costs are keeping you from being involved in DCs throughout the week, we would love to provide a supplemental reimbursement opportunity so that you could still participate. Individuals or groups will find their own babysitters then they will have the opportunity to request reimbursement online. Please fill out only one request each month. Reimbursement checks will be made out to the families that request them but mailed to the Group Leader for disbursement. Please submit your childcare reimbursement request by the end of each month and you will be reimbursed as promptly as possible.
- Individual Childcare Reimbursement: You will be reimbursed $20 for each date you need a babysitter in order to attend your Discipleship Community.
- Group Childcare Reimbursement: You will be reimbursed $25 for each babysitter you employ while your Discipleship Community meets.
